My name is Angela and I thought it would be nice to introduce myself to you.
I've been a sewer for as long as I can remember, and have sewn professionally for over 35 years.
My first job was on a production line at a jeans factory, where I learned to use industrial equipment and work with accuracy at great speed.
After redundancy, I joined Moss Bros where I learned and honed my tailoring skills. 10 years on and looking for a change, I took a managers position with Slater Menswear.
Bored with menswear I opened my own shop called Venn Tailoring, which I run for 20 years offering services such as alterations, garment design and make, curtain and blind making, military uniform and medal work.
Never being on to sit on my laurels, I studied for a teaching qualification and joined the staff of the University of South Wales as a visiting tutor for fashion design students. This prompted me to add a teaching facility to Venn Tailoring where I offered a wide range of classes for all levels.
It wasn't long before the lure of Costume for TV and Film called which is what I've been doing for the past 5 years. It truly is a wonderful job, but work can be sporadic and often involves working away from home.
I'm a little bit older now and have recently moved to pasture new. When I reflect on my past experience, I find that teaching is possibly the most rewarding and my reason for offering sewing tuition once again.
I look forward to meeting lots of new people in my classes and can't wait to share my knowledge and experience with you.
